1. With your lab partner, complete the
Finish Mechanical Wave Lab (Page 159) 1. With a ball chain: produce and measure the wavelength of a standing waves with the following. Draw an annotated (words and numbers) diagrams for each example.
2. With a slinky: send synchronized waves from both ends in to form constructive interference. Also send waves from each end 1/2 wavelength out of phase to produce destructive interference. Draw an annotated diagrams showing the left and right waves independently and also the resultant of the superimposed wave. Check out Waves PhET for more virtual results without dampening. 3. With a slinky: produce a 2nd harmonic standing wave and calculate the wave speed. Draw an annotated diagram and show all mathematical calculations. 4. With a slinky: produce a longitudinal wave pulse and conduct an experiment showing how tension changes the wave speed. Make a graph showing the calculated wave speed at low, medium and high tension.
