Bell Work
1. Draw a free body diagram for the following 160 lb skier / boarder traveling down a 45 degree slope with a constant speed of 35 mph:

2. A 160 lb skier is on a level catwalk and is pushing herself with her skis poles. Each pole is applying a 45 Newton force backward on the ground.  She is encountering 60 Newtons of total friction.  Draw a free body diagram and calculate the skier's acceleration?
  • Convert pounds to newtons and kilograms
  • Use Newton's 2nd Law

2. Draw a free body diagram and solve for a 160 lb skier/boarder traveling down a 45 degree slope while encountering 300 Newton's of friction from the snow.  How fast are they accelerating? (Much Harder)
  • Convert pounds to newtons and kilograms
  • solve x and y components of gravity
  • Use Newton's 2nd Law
